An ovarian cyst is a menstrual disorder that is accompanied by pain and causes infertility in women. Ovarian cysts are the most common fetal and infant tumor with a prevalence of over 30%.  Globally, the annually estimated case of ovarian cysts is around 15 in 100,000 women. An ovarian cyst is a sac in the ovary, filled with liquid or semi-liquid materials. Many women experience ovarian cysts at some time.  However, most incidences start between infancy and adolescence stages because these are the two hormonally active development stages of women. Symptoms Most ovarian cysts develop during the menstrual cycle and they are short-lived (most go off within a few weeks). They can cause:
  •       Pain in the lower abdomen
  •       Sudden sharp pain at the pelvic region
  •       Discomfort during sexual intercourse, especially when deeply penetrated
  •       Constipation
  •       Frequent urination due to Pressure in the pelvic region
  •       Menstrual abnormalities

Risk Factors Of Ovarian Cysts Some factors can trigger the formation of ovarian cysts. They include: Hormonal problem: such as taking certain fertility drugs that induce ovulation. Serious pelvic infection When a serious pelvic infection spreads to the ovary, cysts can be formed. Be conscious of little changes to your monthly cycle, especially in cases of abnormal menstrual symptoms that persist for more than once. Diet and Ovarian cysts Although diets are not the immediate cure for ovarian cysts, eating a balanced and healthy diet can help relieve the pain. They include: Indole-3-carbinol (I3C): they help remove excess hormones from the body. Broccoli, cabbage, spinach, and Brussels sprouts are foods that contain an ideal amount of Indole-3-carbinol (I3C).
