Is there any way to improve the lives we are blessed to be a part of ? Watching the 1994 classic film “The Shawshank Redemption” might help a bit. An honest man who’s stuck in the prison uses his calmness and positive attitude to get out of it. In the end, it is not about money he made nor about the way or rather the rabbit hole through which he is freed. It is much deeper than that. Hope is the key element in the film, it’s the hope that makes the person what he is. How can we work on bettering ourselves and becoming the best version of ourselves? Energy is the key. 

Introduction to Energy 

All things are infused with energy. As a species, we have been fascinated by this energy and the power it has within our own bodies as well as the world around us. This energy that flows our bodies goes by many names such as chi or prana or consciousness. It is the energy within us that guides us the way we perceive the things around us. We need the energy in our life for the growth and well-being of not only our self’s but also people who are around us. 

Just like we are guided by principles and standards in our professional career, the same principles apply to our life. We are guided by our energy or rather higher souls which guides us to the path of Spirituality. There are different modalities of spiritual journey, just like we have different acts and standards we work on, similarly there are different ways to achieve spiritual enlightment. Even things as small as reading a proverb or listening to Calm Music can lead us to achieve higher success in our life. In this article I shall be taking the advantage of one of such Spiritual modalities, “Reiki” to link the spiritual growth with our professional growth.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.” – as explained by the International Center For Reiki Training.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

The practice of Reiki is guided by five principles. The Reiki principles are a way to release the stories that your mind is telling you that create suffering as you go about your day. It is the beliefs that we have about them that cause our stress. As you unravel and release those beliefs, you will find more balance and peace in your life which is enumerated as below –

  1. Just for today I will not worry.
  2. Just for today I will not be angry.
  3. Just for today I will do my work honestly.
  4. Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings.
  5. Just for today I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.

The above principles form the base of the said Spiritual Modality. When we study the said modality in depth, it makes us realize the said modality can be applied to all path of our life and journey ahead, then why not try to experiment in our professional life as well.

How can I practice Reiki?

Well the above principles though seem like guidelines towards positive thoughts and stress-free life, it actually works, and so therefore it needs to followed with certain process and discipline. The herewith, below discipline and process I follow, you may follow the same or add something new in the process.

Affirmations are the positive thoughts or words, which once spoken creates a positive and live energy around us. The power of affirmation only works when you believe or rather trust the words which are spoken by you. So make sure whatever you say, you do believe in the same.

Morning Rituals

Try getting up early in the morning, rejoice yourself, take a bath, now sit idle, do not read news or connect to your cell phones, Sit in the calmest place in your house, most of us may find peace sitting next to our Home Temple or place of worship, you may sit there.

Close your eyes and concentrate on the point which is between your two eyes and the center of your forehead. This concentration point is also known as the Third Eye Chakra. While doing so, DO NOT THINK OF ANYTHING just be blank. While performing this exercise for the first time, lots of thoughts may come in your mind because your mind is not trained to be blank, do not forcefully stop your thoughts, let it flow through you. Open your eyes after 5 Minutes, and read the below principles in the form of Affirmation/Mantra-

 

All it takes is five minutes to complete the process, we have 24 hours a day, we can give 5 minutes of this 24 Hours just for a day.

Try following the process just for a day, and witness the change in you , if you feel positive and helpful at the end of the day , do it for the next day as well. Repeat the process daily, you will realize JUST FOR A DAY is now a part of the habit, and eventually JUST FOR TODAY will automatically become part of your EVERYDAY.

We all are living in strange times, where our believes are being questioned, future seems unpredictable, life seems stagnant, may be spirituality is the need of an hour. “Hope is a Good Thing, may be the Best of Things and No Good Thing Ever Dies”.
