With no clarity on the exact number of deaths that have taken place in Muzzafarnagar due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) or the locally called ‘chamki-fever’, all we can say is that the state is grappling with this deadly disease. Muzzafarnagar in Bihar has earlier been hit by the disease in 2014 and even then, the state was struggling to get stable. This year, roughly 100 lives have been lost, of which 60 are reportedly, children.
What is AES?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “Viral encephalitis is inflammation of the brain, caused by any one of a number of viruses. Symptoms include high fever, headache, sensitivity to light, stiff neck and back, vomiting, confusion and, in severe cases, seizures, paralysis, and coma.”
The disease causes mild flu-like symptoms:
- High fever
- Loss of sensation
Foods to eat
Honestly, the ailment cannot be averted simply by eating or avoiding certain foods. However, the foods listed below can help you with boosting your immunity, which, in turn, can help you in putting up a strong fight against the disease:
- Antioxidant foods: Foods rich with antioxidants such as blueberries, tomatoes, bell pepper, and cherries are your best bet to fight any disease.
- Stay hydrated: Trust us, a hydrated body is one of the most healthy one. Most complications begin when your body is inadequately hydrated. So make sure you drink 7-8 glasses of water a day without fail. More so, if you suffer from any kind of viral fever, make sure to have warm water.
- Probiotics: Having probiotics as a part of your daily meal. Probiotics help in building your immunity as well as keeps your digestive system happy.
- Vitamin C: Anything that can help you with boosting immunity as well as raising your anti-oxidant levels are great alternatives.
How alternative therapy can help?
While there is no proof that can prove that acupuncture can be a plausible treatment for encephalitis, a shred of evidence that states that it can be helpful for some people- in the sense, that it can help you with relieving you of its symptoms.
A lot of acupuncturists agree that scalp acupuncture helps people with encephalitis as it stimulates and regulates qi (energy) throughout the body. Definitely, more research is needed to prove the same.
