Delve Deep: Ways to know your partner better
Let’s face this: The longer you are with a person, the more you feel like you know them fully. We almost always assume that we know everything about the person’s likes and dislike just because we have stayed with the person for a really long time. But the truth of the matter is, nobody can know anyone fully and voila! you can always try harder.
Ways to know your partner better
What is it that strikes the right chord with you when you think of the film- ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (K3G)? Is it the quirky characters or just the way the film revolves around the love story of the evergreen couple of Kajol and SRK? It is the way the characters are in sync with each other’s weirdness, while not leaving out their sensitive sides.
- Listen more: Time is an element in love that cannot be replaced by anything else ever. You will have to spend quality time with your partner. If your motive is to know your partner better, just do this. Go out for a drive or someplace where you can talk and just try to listen to what your partner has to say. Whether it is about the way they talk, the gesture, the expressions or simply the way they behave- it will tell you much more about them than you’d expect.
- See them in ‘their’ space: One of the best things that you can do is simply look at them working in what they’re good at. You could probably drop in at their office one day, look at them exercising, cooking or maybe just doing dishes. It is all these things that you will know a lot about the person. Knowing how much a person loves doing simple tasks or tasks of their expertise is a great way to introduce yourself to a whole new person.
- Create shared hobbies: No two people can be the same. What you enjoy, may not necessarily be the thing that your partner loves and guess what? That’s okay. Try doing something that can simply be fun for the both of you- traveling (oh, going on a vacation together is an amazing idea!), reading poems together, watching movies or just exercising together. Create some shared hobbies and if you have none, try learning new things together like say, gardening.
Knowing your partner isn’t just good for the relationship but also, for yourself. You will be amazed at how this will help you in knowing yourself better.
