Meditation can help you in many ways than just one. Whether it is about calming your mind, relieving you from stress, easing your anxiety and improving your heart health, meditation can do it all. Yes, meditation can improve your heart health. Don’t know how? Here’s your answer.
Meditation and Heart Health: The Connection
We all know how meditation allows you to modify the physiological functions of your body by targeting certain parts of the brain that allows you to achieve a state of deep calmness, stillness and deeper relaxation. No, no, no, we aren’t just saying that meditation reduces stress and in turn helps you in a great way. But we are explaining that there are more reasons to say so. When you meditate, you calm your inner self and yes, cut down on stress too. But here are other things that meditation can help you with:
- Lowers Blood Pressure: Blood pressure, simply put is a scale to measure the force of blood against the walls of arteries. Your BP can elevate due to a number of factors like sodium intake, age-related narrowing of arteries etc. When you meditate, there are two important things that are happening in your body- increase of parasympathetic nervous system that promotes widening of blood vessels as well as calms the activity in the sympathetic nervous system that narrows the blood vessels in response to stress. All in all, it lowers blood pressure.
- Improved circulation: When you are anxious, overwhelmed, stressed or worried, your heart pumps faster as it tries to deliver oxygen to bodily organs. That’s where meditation helps you. It helps in reduction of heart rate while gradually improving the circulation efficiency.
- Lowers fatigue: The effects of meditation are not only quick to see but long-lasting too! When you meditate your brain and circulatory system is automatically in a good shape. This helps in coping with the stresses of daily life. When your heart pumps blood in an easy and good manner, there are less possibilities of it, overworking- making you less fatigue or stressed.
